14 <p>Exim is a message transfer agent (<b>MTA</b>) developed at the
15 University of Cambridge for use on Unix systems connected to the
16 Internet. It is freely available under the terms of the <b>GNU
17 General Public Licence</b>. In style it is similar to <b>Smail
18 3</b>, but its facilities are more general. There is a great deal
19 of flexibility in the way mail can be routed, and there are
20 extensive facilities for checking incoming mail. Exim can be
21 installed in place of sendmail, although the configuration of exim
22 is quite different to that of sendmail.</p>

27 University of Cambridge or any other institution.</i>
30 <h2>Current Versions</h2>
32 The current version of Exim is <b>4.20</b>. See the <a href="mirrors.html"><b>Download</b></a> page to get a copy.
35 <p>Exim 3 and previous versions are now considered obsolete. Exim 3
36 is not being developed any further, nor is it being actively
37 maintained, though if a really serious bug were found, it would be
42 <p>The University of Cambridge Computing Service is hosting a <a
43 href="http://www-tus.csx.cam.ac.uk/courses/exim/">fifth course</a>
44 on the Exim mail transfer agent on Monday 30 June to Wednesday 2
45 July 2003 in Robinson College, Cambridge. The course is suitable
46 for those new to Exim as well as more experienced users. In
47 addition to Dr Philip Hazel, there will be two external speakers.
