14
Exim is a message transfer agent (MTA) developed at the
15 University of Cambridge for use on Unix systems connected to the
16 Internet. It is freely available under the terms of the GNU
17 General Public Licence. In style it is similar to Smail
18 3, but its facilities are more general. There is a great deal
19 of flexibility in the way mail can be routed, and there are
20 extensive facilities for checking incoming mail. Exim can be
21 installed in place of sendmail, although the configuration of exim
22 is quite different to that of sendmail.

26 This is a volunteer run website with no connection to The
27 University of Cambridge or any other institution.
31
There is an Exim course at the University of Cambridge in July 2004.

33
Current Versions

35 The current version of Exim is 4.34. See the <a
36 href="mirrors.html">Download page to get a copy.
37 There were a number of issues with earlier 4.3x versions
38 so their use is discouraged. Security fixes in this release
39 mean that all previous versions should be obsoleted in favour
43
Exim 3 and previous versions are now considered obsolete. Exim 3
44 is not being developed any further, nor is it being actively
45 maintained, though if a really serious bug were found, it would be
48
The old system filter has been deleted from the site - it is
49 not appropriate for current mail configurations.

53
The Exim/Mailman HOWTO for
54 Mailman 2.1 with Exim 4 has been rewritten.

58
The new Exim 4
59 book is available. See the <a
60 href="http://www.uit.co.uk/exim-book/">book website for
61 further information.

63
The O'Reilly Exim 3
64 book is still available.
