Exim is a message transfer agent (MTA) developed at the University of Cambridge for use on Unix systems connected to the Internet. It is freely available under the terms of the GNU General Public Licence. In style it is similar to Smail 3, but its facilities are more general. There is a great deal of flexibility in the way mail can be routed, and there are extensive facilities for checking incoming mail. Exim can be installed in place of sendmail, although the configuration of exim is quite different to that of sendmail.
The next Exim course in Cambridge, England, will be from 24th to 27th July (lunchtime-to-lunchtime). Details are available along with online registration at the course web site.
New users and those converting from other MTAs (and others) may find the Exim New Users site to be useful.
There is an extensive set of main documentation and a Wiki for user supported documentation and hints
The current version of Exim is 4.67. See the Download page to get a copy.
Exim 3 and previous versions are now considered obsolete. See the wiki article Exim3Status for details.
If you find a bug in Exim or the documentation, please register a bug in the Exim Bugzilla
The Exim 4 book is available. See the book website for further information.
The O'Reilly Exim 3 book is still available, however this is not appropriate for a current Exim environment.
